Over-the-top action films are as American as apple pie and so, of course, another film in the Has Fallen franchise has been announced.

Reports have confirmed that Gerard Butler will return for the upcoming film, with plans to reprise his role as Mike Banning, a former Army Ranger who worked as a protective agent for the Secret Service.

Ric Roman Waugh, who directed 2019's Angel Has Fallen, is set to helm the sequel. In addition to shooting the intense political action thriller, Waugh will also pen the script with fellow writer Robert Kamen. G-BASE’s Alan Siegel and Gerard Butler, Eclectic Picture’s Heidi Jo Markel, Les Weldon, and Millennium Media’s Jeffrey Greenstein, Jonathan Yunger, and Yariv Lerner will all serve as producers, with Avi Lerner, Trevor Short, and Boaz Davidson executive producing through Millennium Media.

Set to be presented as the fourth installment in the Has Fallen film franchise, Night Has Fallen will undoubtedly feature Butler's character, Mike Banning, as he's thrust headlong into a plot that will test his resilience, wits, and cat-like reflexes. So far, the Has Fallen franchise (Olympus Has FallenLondon Has FallenAngel Has Fallen) has grossed over $520M at the global box office. While each chapter has arguably been more ridiculous than the last, that hasn't stopped fans from lining up for Banning's next outrageous display of derring-do. With plenty of political intrigues, explosions, and elaborate action sequences to come, I wouldn't be surprised if Night Has Fallen emerges as the franchise's splashiest entry to date.
