For Daniel Craig’s final Bond film, No Time to Die, international box office is a major element in what will make the film be considered a success. Despite experiencing several delays due to the pandemic, fans of 007 are arriving in droves to engage in another explosive mission with the suave superspy.
On Thursday, No Time to Die grossed an impressive $20 million, increasing its two-day earnings to $22 million. This figure includes Wednesday preview screenings and midnight showings.
For No Time to Die, international box office is key. Thankfully, it’s off to a fantastic start in places like the U.K. and Ireland, where it opened to $6.6 million. That’s 14% more than the amount of money earned for the launch of Spectre. It also marks the highest single-day total of the pandemic.
Looking at other parts of the world, No Time to Die scored $2.8 million in Germany, $1.3 million in Korea, $1 million in Denmark, and $990,000 in Sweden.
Our own Chris Bumbray (who’s a James Bond megafan) was lucky enough to see No Time to Die before its wide release in the United States and Canada. According to Chris, the new storyline is “compelling,” and exhibits a sense of humor that’s been largely absent during the Craig era.
No Time to Die continues from where Spectre left off, with James Bond having left active service to begin a new life with Dr. Swann (Léa Seydoux), but Bond is soon brought back into action when Felix Leiter (Jeffrey Wright) comes calling to enlist his help in searching for a missing scientist. When it becomes apparent that the scientist was abducted, Bond must confront a danger the likes of which the world has never seen before in a villain (Rami Malek) armed with dangerous new technology. The film also stars Lashana Lynch, Ana de Armas, Christoph Waltz, Ben Whishaw, Naomi Harris, Rory Kinnear, and Ralph Fiennes, with Cary Joji Fukunaga directing from a script he co-wrote with Neal Purvis, Robert Wade, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
No Time to Die will hit cinemas on October 8, 2021.
