No Way Home trailer views snap Endgame record to dust

No Way Home trailer views

Sony’s spider-sense must be tingling off the charts right now after learning that the first trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home is shattering all-time viewing records online. It’s true. Sony dropped the first teaser for its Spider-Man sequel on Monday night at CinemaCon, and then the rest of the world got a taste when it landed online. The trailer racked up 355.5 million views in its first 24 hours (via Variety), shattering the previous record holder, Avengers: Endgame, which garnered 289 million views.

No Way Home‘s trailer viewership draw also pummeled the total for Spider-Man: Far From Home, which hit 135 million in its first 24 hours. Be that as it may, Far From Home is still Sony’s largest grossing title in the studio’s history, with $1.131 billion in worldwide receipts. It kind of makes you wonder about that Disney buying Sony’s Spider-Man characters rumor, doesn’t it? Would Sony really be willing to surrender such a tremendous payday to Disney and Marvel?

Right now, it looks like Spider-Man: No Way Home could become Sony’s biggest film ever, and understandably so. After all, the movie has a lot going for it. Not only does it continue the cliffhanger left by the finale of Spider-Man: Far From Home, it also expands on the introduction to Marvel’s Multiverse. No doubt fans have an overwhelming amount of questions about Doctor Strange’s willingness to help Peter in the film. Does he feel sorry for the young hero? Is this merely a way to stroke his ego? Did Wong leave the toilet seat up, and this is revenge? We’ll have to wait until the movie is released in December to find out.

Directed by John Watts, Spider_Man: No Way Home stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jon Favreau, Marisa Tomei, J.K. Simmons, Willem Dafoe, Jamie Foxx, Benedict Wong, Alfred Molina, J.B. Smoove, and Martin Starr. Then, if you believe the rumors, other notable actors from the Spider-Man film franchise are expected to show up, including Tobey Maguire. Obviously, this has yet to be confirmed, but c’mon. Who are we trying to kid? Seriously though, I have no idea. Let’s all keep our fingers crossed for some exciting surprises, shall we?
