Not The Momma! Dinosaurs reportedly headed to Disney+ this fall

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Disney+ has an impressive library of classic shows on its roster but they're always getting requests for series that are just dying to be rediscovered. One of the most requested shows has been the ABC series, Dinosaurs, which ran from 1991-1994. The series, in the grand scheme of things, didn't have a lengthy run but all 65 episodes have become fan favorites over the years and the show just needs a home to be prepped for proper binging. Well, it looks like that wait is over because Dinosaurs is reportedly coming to Disney+ this fall.

No specific date has been revealed but the announcement was made by Ryan Reynolds during the taping of his new game show series, Don't, on ABC. Could Reynolds be goofing around?  Very possible but it would make sense for him to mention it on an ABC show he produces because Dinosaurs once aired on the network and ABC is directly linked to Disney. This is the only tidbit that was revealed about the show coming to the service but it should be enough to get fans excited. The show is currently unavailable on streaming after originally being housed on Hulu. You can purchase episodes of the series on services like Amazon.

Dinosaurs seemed to take its inspiration from shows like The Simpsons and The Flinstones by being a sort of parody of modern life but told through the brainchild of puppeteering genius Jim Henson, who developed the idea in the late 1980s. The series followed the Sinclair clan, a family of dinosaurs residing in a modern world. They have TVs, fridges and various other assets of human life and yet the only human beings around them are cavemen, who are considered pets and wild animals. Henson didn't get to see this idea fully realized before he passed away but the show was  eventually produced by Michael Jacobs Productions and Jim Henson Television in association with Walt Disney Television and starred Stuart Pankin, Jessica Walter, Jason Willinger, Sally Struthers, and Kevin Clash.

While the show was pure parody and comedy, the series has become particularly known for its now infamous series finale which ends things on a bit of an unpleasant note. In the episode called "Changing Nature" (BTW VERY OLD SPOILER ALERT INCOMING), it all ends with the family's patriarch accidentally leading to the beginning of the Ice Age and finds the beloved family freezing to death, with no idea of what is really happening. I know in real life dinosaurs went extinct but it's not the kind of end I personally wanted for the Sinclair family after spending three years with them.

While this information is limited, I am excited to hear Dinosaurs is coming back. I actually didn't even know it was on Hulu for awhile until I looked into it for this story so I've been really missing out. This show was definitely a childhood favorite growing up and I'd love to revisit it.

Are YOU excited to hear Dinosaurs will  be on Disney+ this fall?
