Octet: Amanda Seyfried, Rachel Zegler, Tramell Tillman, and more to lead Lin-Manuel Miranda’s next movie musical

Lin-Manuel Miranda, the mastermind behind Hamilton, is at it again! In the midst of this year’s CinemaCon festival, details about the cast of Miranda’s next big screen musical are making the rounds. According to reports, Amanda Seyfried (The Housemaid), Rachel Zegler (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes), and Tramell Tillman (Severance) will lead the cast of Octet, Miranda’s newly announced movie musical.

What’s Octet about?

Octet follows “eight internet-obsessed people who meet in a church basement and lock their phones in a box,” according to its synopsis. “The group of people are struggling with digital dependency, charting their compulsions using only the analog vibrancy of their own voices. With witty lyrics, shimmering harmonies and virtuosic solos, ‘Octet’ sings of connection, redemption, hope — and how we can be truly present with each other.”

Who else stars in Octet?

Seyfried will play Jessica, Zegler will play Velma, and Tillman will play Marvin. Joining the trio are Sheryl Lee Ralph as Paula, Phillipa Soo as Karly, Gaten Matarazzo as Toby, Jonathan Groff as Henry, and Paul-Jordan Jansen as Ed. Lin-Manuel Miranda directs Octet, based on Dave Malloy’s acclaimed musical. Octet is Miranda’s first time helming a film since 2021’s Tick, Tick… Boom!

Love for Hamilton

Miranda’s silver-screen adaptation of Hamilton premiered in 2020, earning $20.9 million worldwide. Hamilton focuses on the real life of one of America’s foremost founding fathers and first Secretary of the Treasury, Alexander Hamilton. Captured live on Broadway from the Richard Rodgers Theater with the original Broadway cast, Hamilton is one of the most universally beloved modern musicals. When Hamilton hit the stage, theater kids and general audiences alike lost their minds. The show blends historical events with hip-hop elements to create an engaging, insightful, and powerful tour de force of talent and song.

Octet will have lots of eyes on it, with audiences and critics curious to see if Lin-Manuel Miranda can capture lightning in a bottle again. What do you think about the Octet cast? Are you a Hamilton fan? Let us know in the comments section below.
