Prior to the Oscars last month, it seemed pretty certain the gorgeous Mila Kunis would, after leaving AKIRA for the Hughes Brother, portray the Wicked Witch of the West in Sam Raimi’s OZ, THE GREAT AND POWERFUL. Then, when pressed about the subject on the red carpet, she seemed rather reticent to confirm her role. Well folks, it’s now official: Kunis will indeed join James Franco in the land of Oz!
More specifically, Kunis is in line to play Theodora, the youngest of three witch sisters who starts off as a good witch, siding with her sister Glinda, then slowly morphs into something more wicked under the aegis of her other sister Evanora. Here’s how Variety parses it:
“Theodora starts out as a good witch, alongside her beautiful sister Glinda, but after her sexual advances are jilted by Franco’s salesman, she’s convinced by Evanora to switch sides and help her older sister rule Oz.”
As for the other witch sisters, the following names have been bandied about: Olivia Wilde, Amy Adams, Kate Beckinsale, Keira Knightley and Rebecca Hall. Wow, now that’s some mothaf*ckin’ heat!
If I had my druthers, Beckinsale and Wilde would play Kunis’ older sisters. This despite the fact Olivia is a year younger than Mila. Of course, that Amy Adams may be the best actor of the bunch.
What says you? Diggin’ Mila’s official involvement? Who do you think should play her older siblings in the film?
