He finally made a decision yo!
After months of speculation as to which direction Rob Zombie would travel for his next feature film, Deadline is reporting Zombie has finally set his sights on a witch-based thriller called THE LORDS OF SALEM. Zombie and witches? What’s not to love about that shite?!?
Word is LORDS OF SALEM will be set up at Haunted Films, and will be produced by Jason Blum, Oren Peli and Steven Schneider – the team behind the massively successful indie hit PARANORMAL ACTIVITY. Here’s what the flick entails:
The thriller is set in contemporary Salem, where the inhabitants receive a demonic visit from a 300-year old coven of witches. Zombie will write the script while on his upcoming concert tour circuit, and will shoot next year.
Wow. All this after purportedly going to direct THE BLOB, TYRANNOSAURUS REX, not to mention the possibility of WEREWOLF WOMEN OF THE S.S., THE DEVIL’S REJECTS 2, HALLOWEEN 3, WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BARON VON SHOCK, etc. etc. Still, demonic witches set in modern day Salem sounds kinda promising.
About the collaboration with Haunted, Zombie beamed:
“What excited me most was Jason (Blum) saying, you can have total control over the script, casting and final cut. I said I’m in.”
About taking his directorial resume in somewhat of a new direction, Zombie concluded:
“I wanted to break away from anything related to preexisting material,” he said. “The remake train is getting pretty tired now and when I made Halloween, everybody complained, either that it was too much like the original or too different. I like that people either love or hate what I do because it’s better than being in the middle, which means forgettable. But when you do an original premise, they take it on face value and after three years of not being able to win on Halloween, I just couldn’t go through that again.”
So let’s hear from y’all. In favor of Zombie directing LORDS OF SALEM as his next flick, or would you rather have seen him commit to one of the aforementioned projects? Or do you not care what the dude does one way or the other?
Zombie’s better half, Ms. Sheri Moon!
