Oliver Stone set to helm New York-set drama White Lies with Benicio Del Toro

Benicio Del Toro has been cast to lead WHITE LIES, the next directorial effort from award-winning filmmaker Oliver Stone (ANY GIVEN SUNDAY, BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY, ALEXANDER). For the New York-set drama, Stone will present audiences with a story covering three generations. In what we know so far, the film will follow Jack (Del Toro), a child of divorce now repeating his parents’ mistakes in his own marriage and with his troubled son. Feeling trapped, he embarks on a lust-filled journey to free himself, but only becomes more lost. When he meets a woman whose life is the opposite of his own, he begins a journey of rediscovery. In addition to directing the feature, Stone also wrote the script.

Little else is known about the project at this time, other than that production on WHITE LIES is expected to begin in New York come the spring of 2019. No other casting announcements have been made, though it is known that the studio is on the hunt. Furthermore, it's being said that WHITE LIES will mark a tonal shift for Stone, who aims to share a sordid tale with audiences that cuts straight through an emotional bone.

We'll be sure to bring you more news concerning WHITE LIES as it develops. In the meantime, you can catch Del Toro when next he stars in the Ben Stiller-directed Showtime limited series ESCAPE AT DANNEMORA, which tells the story of an employee at a prison in upstate New York who becomes romantically involved with a pair of inmates and helps them escape.
