After a development that seems to have been going on forever, the remake of George Romero’s THE CRAZIES is gearing up and has finally found itself a star. Timothy Olyphant has signed on to star in the film for director Breck Eisner (SAHARA). In the film Olyphant will star as the sheriff of a small town where a biological warfare spill turns the residents permanently insane. Murder, rioting and, well, craziness ensues and the military works to restore order and combat the virus. The original film was released in 1973 five years after NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD hit theaters. Overture Films is backing the production, which already has a tentative release date of September, 2009. Olyphant, who should not be blamed for HITMAN, can be seen next in the FX series “Damages” and the David Twohy film A PERFECT GETAWAY.
