Back in Ocotber of 2007, MAD MAX: FURY ROAD director George Miller flew to Los Angeles, where he met with several actors in the hope of bringing them all together for a film project titled JUSTICE LEAGUE: MORTAL. Before Warner Bros. placed the project on indefinite hold in 2008, several stars had already been chosen to portray DC's most iconic superhero team, including Megan as Wonder Woman; D.J. Cotrona as Superman; Armie Hammer as Batman; Adam Brody as The Flash; Santiago Cabrera as Aquaman; Hugh Keays-Byrne as Martian Manhunter; and Common assuming the role of Green Lantern. Sadly, the project fizzled out after a series of complications, thus creating another Justice League project — alongside the Snyder Cut — that failed to come to fruition.
However, despite JUSTICE LEAGUE: MORTAL's defunct status, filmmaker Ryan Unicomb is now in the process of developing a documentary detailing the Miller superhero feature that never was, and has recently taken to Instagram to share one of Armie Hammer's Batman cowls that was made for the film. Since the post went live, many users of the social media platform have pointed out that the prototype harkens back to artist Alex Ross' version of the Dark Knight – curved, pointy ears and all.
Previously while talking about JUSTICE LEAGUE: MORTAL via the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Hammer revealed that Miller's film would have been positively brutal, and that the death count would have been "extremely high." He also teased that the sup[erhero spectacle would have seen Superman and Wonder Woman engaging in an epic battle unlike fans had ever seen before. "And I mean it would be like when two superheroes actually fight. Like, they destroy multiple cities like by accident 'cause they're just like, they don't even see anything else other than like trying to destroy the other person in front of them and it was incredible. At one point they destroy an aircraft carrier by accident and then also the death count was going to be extremely high," Hammer explained, likely while with a big grin on his chiseled face.
According to several accounts, the writer's strike of 2009 is what ultimately killed JUSTICE LEAGUE: MORTAL. With that in mind, it's best to chuck Miller's Justice League concept into your mental incinerator, as it would take a miracle to resurrect the premise and then some.
