Orphan Black: Echoes teaser trailer gives a preview of Krysten Ritter series

More than two years have gone by since it was announced that Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones) would be starring in and executive producing Orphan Black: Echoes, a new series set in the world of the sci-fi thriller Orphan Black. Now a teaser trailer for the show has finally made its way online, and you can check it out in the embed above. A specific premiere date for Orphan Black: Echoes has not yet been announced, but we do know that the show is going to be airing on AMC, AMC+, and BBC America in 2024.

The first season of Orphan Black: Echoes will consist of ten episodes. The show is set in the near future and will “explore the scientific manipulation of human existence”. It follows a group of women as they weave their way into each other’s lives and embark on a thrilling journey, unravelling the mystery of their identity and uncovering a wrenching story of love and betrayal.

Ritter is joined in the cast by Amanda Fix (Broken Diamonds), Keeley Hawes (Bodyguard), Rya Kihlstedt (A Teacher), Hiroyuki Liao (Barry), Reed Diamond (The Mosquito Coast), and Avan Jogia (Zombieland: Double Tap). Ritter’s character is prominently featured in the teaser trailer. Fix is playing Jules, “a salty teen trying to find herself. The newly adopted daughter of wealthy parents, Jules is tough as nails, a little reckless but brutally smart.” Hawes’ character is “a perceptive but sensitive scientist who finds herself at odds with her own moral code when circumstances lead her to make an unthinkable choice.” Kihlstedt is Eleanor, “a brilliant, tough as nails, neuroscientist, who is deeply loyal to the people she’s close to, including her wife and their son. Raised by working-class parents, nothing was ever handed to her; she is devoted to her work and gets up every day with a singular focus to make a breakthrough in her research.” Liao plays Darros, “an extremely powerful self-made billionaire with a troubled past. Soft-spoken but with an undeniable presence, Darros is a man who always gets what he wants, no matter the cost.” Diamond’s character is Tom, “the former military, no-nonsense Head of Corporate Security for the Darros Foundation.” Jogia takes on the role of “Lucy’s (Ritter) boyfriend Jack, a soft-spoken former army medic and single father. He’s devoted his life to raising his daughter and discovers the woman he loves has an unimaginable secret.” (Thanks to Deadline for the character descriptions.)

Ritter is executive producing Orphan Black: Echoes alongside creator/showrunner Anna Fishko, original series co-creator/director John Fawcett, and Boat Rocker’s David Fortier, Ivan Schneeberg, Katie O’Connell Marsh, Nick Nantell, and Kerry Appleyard.

Orphan Black ran for five seasons on BBC America. Tatiana Maslany, who recently starred in the Marvel / Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, played Sarah, “an outsider and orphan whose life changes dramatically after witnessing the suicide of a woman who looks just like her. Sarah assumes her identity, her boyfriend and her bank account. But instead of solving her problems, the street smart chameleon is thrust headlong into a kaleidoscopic mystery. She makes the dizzying discovery that she and the dead woman are clones… but are they the only ones? Sarah quickly finds herself caught in the middle of a deadly conspiracy and must race to find answers about who she is and how many others there are just like her.” (Thanks to Fandom.com for the synopsis.) Over the course of the series, Maslany ended up playing fourteen different clones.
