The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have announced their seven picks for the short list of Oscar’s Best Visual Effects award. The list was previously at fifteen, with the following films not making the cut: ANGELS & DEMONS, CORALINE, A CHRISTMAS CAROL, G-FORCE, G.I. JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA, SHERLOCK HOLMES, WATCHMEN, and WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE.

Here are the current films in contention:

– 2012
– AVATAR
– DISTRICT 9
– HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE
– STAR TREK
– TERMINATOR SALVATION
– TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN

From these seven, the list will be whittled down to three come February 2nd when all of the Oscar nominees are announced. I would think AVATAR and DISTRICT 9 are a lock, but what would the third be? Chime in below and tell us what you think!
