Our Flag Means Death Interviews: Samson Kayo and Vico Ortiz

New HBO series Our Flag Means Death is a pirate adventure based on the true story of Stede Bonnet, known as The Gentleman Pirate. With Taika Waititi on board as co-star and director on some episodes, this hilarious series manages to take the workplace sitcom and blend it with the high seas and swashbuckling action. The first season of the show focuses on Rhys Darby as Stede as he and his crew try to build recognition as the best pirates of the day.

I recently had the chance to sit down with the cast of Our Flag Means Death to discuss the series and their roles on the show. Two of my favorite characters on the show, Jim and Oluwande, are played by Vico Ortiz and Samson Kayo. Both were a pleasure to talk to and discussed their experience on the series and who the funniest people were to work with. Vico also talked about what they were able to bring to the role of Jim, a unique character that hit close to home for Vico. Samson also talked about whether he would have made a good pirate.
