Pacific Rim 2 title confirmed as production officially kicks off

We've certainly been through quite the emotional roller-coaster when it came to the much anticipated sequel to Guillermo del Toro's PACIFIC RIM; after being brought back from the brink of death on more than one occasion, production on the PACIFIC RIM sequel has officially begun in Australia. Looks like we haven't seen the last of del Toro's colourful Kaiju vs. Jaeger action, and although I don't count the first film among my favourites, I'm totally down for revisiting that world.

Unfortunately Guillermo del Toro won't be returning to the directors chair this time around (although he's still active in the production) as he's passed those duties on to Steven S. DeKnight (Daredevil). Although del Toro had said that "a lot of the cast from the first movie is coming back," at the moment the sequel features an all-new cast which includes John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Cailee Spaeny, Jing Tian and Levi Meaden. We know that Charlie Hunnam won't be back, but hopefully we'll see a few characters from the first PACIFIC RIM pop in before everything wraps up. Steven S. DeKnight and John Boyega both commemorated the beginning of production by turning to social-media and finally confirming that long-rumoured title.

PACIFIC RIM: MAELSTROM is set for a February 23, 2018 release.
