Patrick in T5?

After the release of the mind-blowing new trailer for TERMINATOR SALVATION, it’s hard not to melt away our collective McG-related skepticism and embrace a sense of white hot anticipation. McG–the oft-maligned director–seems certain that his film will be a smash hit, and has already started talking about a potential sequel.

There has been much talk of potential Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton cameos in SALVATION, but it appears as though McG is already looking beyond that. In a recent interview with FearNet, the ambitious redheaded helmer discusses the possibility of including T2’s Robert Patrick– the chilling T-1000–in a possible fifth installment of the Terminator series.

I like the idea in a prospective next picture that you meet Robert Patrick the way he looks today, and he’s a scientist that’s working on improving cell replication so we can stay healthier and we can cure juvenile diabetes and all these things that once again sound like good ideas — and once again live as an idealized expression of ourselves. So imagine seeing a sixty-year-old Robert Patrick and knowing, ‘Holy shit! That’s gonna be the T-1000 – who comes back perfect, lean and the whole thing.’ I haven’t concluded that, but Robert and I had dinner the other night and talked about it.

Personally, I would love nothing more than to see a T-1000 origin story. He is by far one of the most intimidating and terrifying villains in recent memory. Although McG might be getting a little ahead of himself, watching T-1000’s inception would be satisfyingly electric if not electrifyingly satisfying. Maybe it would even go so far as justifying why I wet my bed whenever I see a cop on a motorcycle pass by.
