I love PEE-WEE’S BIG ADVENTURE. It remains one of the funniest and wholesome family movies that is simultaneously terrifyingly bizarre. There are so many iconic moments from Tim Burton‘s film that you cannot name them all. Despite his infamous arrest in the 1990s, Paul Reubens has worked steadily in film and television and even mounted a stage revival featuring his Pee-Wee Herman character. Now, after years of rumors that it was coming, Reubens says an announcement is imminent regarding a new big screen Pee-Wee adventure as well as a brand new television series.

Reubens told The LA Times that a director for the film has been selected but refused to name who was chosen to carry the new film.

“Short of something unforeseen like the studio going out of business, I think it’s very likely both these projects will happen next year,” he said.

So, if all goes to plan, the new Pee-Wee series would begin airing next year with the film likely hitting the big screen in 2015. I am fine with waiting a little while longer knowing Reubens has the right project coming along. I just hope it is closer to PEE-WEE’S BIG ADVENTURE rather than BIG TOP PEE-WEE.
