Viral marketing demigod J.J. Abrams may have found his Chekov for his upcoming STAR TREK reboot and it’s in the form of curly-haired Russian born youngster Anton Yelchin. He’s in negotiations to play the stoic navigator of The Enterprise and as soon as a suitable accord is reached, he’ll join brain devouring TV villain Zachary Quinto as the uber-stoic young Mr. Spock and Leonard Nimoy as the Mr. Spock we’ve all come to know and love. While the parts of Kirk, Bones, Uhura, Sulu, Scotty, the film’s villain and the Federation captain are yet to be cast, Abrams apparently intends on casting big-name actors for the latter two. There’s also a rumor floating around that Tom Cruise is up for the role of pre-Kirk Enterprise captain Christopher Pike. Yelchin can next be seen playing the titular role in the comedy CHARLIE BARTLETT. STAR TREK XI opens Christmas Day, 2008.
