Peacemaker cast adds four to join Suicide Squad spinoff

James Gunn’s Suicide Squad spinoff HBO Max series Peacemaker has taken aim at four new actors to add to its cast.

Those newly-added actors include Chukwudi Iwuji (The Split, Designated Survivor), as Clemson Murn in a series regular role, with Lochlyn Munro (Riverdale, White Chicks) as Larry Fitzgibbon, Annie Chang (Shades of Blue, Master of None)as Detective Sophie Song, and Christopher Heyerdahl (Togo, Hell on Wheels) as Captain Locke, each assuming a recurring guest star role. They'll be joining Cena's Suicide Squad co-star Steve Agee for the series, who is reprising his John Economos role from the upcoming film. Economos is the warden of Belle Reve Federal Penitentiary as well as an aide to Amanda Waller (Viola Davis). With regard to Munro's Larry Fitzgibbon, he's the head doctor at Belle Reve penitentiary in the pages of DC Comics as well as an aide to Amanda Waller.

The eight-episode series will focus on Peacemaker (John Cena), a guy who believes in peace at any cost, no matter how many people he has to kill to achieve it. As it was previously reported, Gunn will write all eight episodes of the series and will also direct.

Details for Gunn's The Suicide Squad are scarce at this time, though the redeemed filmmaker has promised that his version of Task Force X will be unlike anything comic book fans have ever seen before. In fact, Warner Bros. executives apparently told The Suicide Squad producer Peter Safran that the film is "the largest construction project on any movie [we've] ever done." Safran also revealed a few plot details about the upcoming film, part of which will take place on a Latin American island called Corto Maltese. "There they have to destroy a Nazi-era prison and laboratory named Jotunheim, where political prisoners were held and experimentations took place," said Safran. We've caught a glimpse at this location in the behind-the-scenes trailer for the film, and it does look like it will be quite the epic battle. Gunn also added that they were "crushing cars, we're blowing up tons of stuff, we're doing tons of squibs… we could do whatever we wanted." Let's go, I say! The Suicide Squad is slated to hit theaters and HBO Max on August 6, 2021.
