Penn is Fair Game

Hot off his Oscar win (you cost me an iphone, Penn), Sean Penn can pretty much get any role he wants. This guy will probably go down as the best actor of our generation, so when he announces a film, we should all stand up and listen.

This one’s not quite announced, but Penn is in talks to star in Doug Liman’s FAIR GAME, opposite Naomi Watts. In it, Penn would play Ambassador Joseph Wilson, husband of outed CIA agent Valerie Plame Wilson (Watts). If you’re unfamiliar with the controversial story, Valerie Wilson’s identity as a spy was leaked to the press by the collective group of scumbags Dick Cheney, Karl Rove and Cheney’s ex-chief of staff, Lewis “Scooter” Libby. While Rove and Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage admitted they leaked her agency status to journalists, Libby was convicted of lying to a federal grand jury about his role in outing the poor gal. All this because her husband, the Ambassador wrote op-ed columns that accused the Bush Administration of manipulating intelligence about weapons of mass destruction to justify the invasion of Iraq. If this role sounds tailor made for Penn that’s because it, um, is.
