Ryan Phillippe and his girlfriend Abbie Cornish will reteam for the upcoming viking epic LAST BATTLE DREAMER. Sean Bean, last seen doing his Rutger Hauer impersonation in THE HITCHER, will also star. Phillippe and Bean will star as Viking warriors who invade Britain. Director Menno Meyjes (THE MARTIAN CHILD) describes DREAMER as a love story so expect Cornish to be looking sultry in there somewhere. Phillippe and Cornish both starred in Kimberly Pierce’s STOP LOSS and took on a romance that was rumored to have helped dissolve Phillippe’s marriage to Reese Witherspoon. Normally BF/GF starring combinations don’t work out too well (just as Ben Affleck) but Phillipish (or would it be Cornippe?) are willing to give it a shot. Production is expected to begin later this year. It’ll be interesting to see if someone can finally do for Vikings what Johnny Depp did for pirates. In addition to MARTIAN CHILD which is set for release this fall, Meyjes is also wrapping up production on MANOLETE with Adrien Brody and Penelope Cruz.
