Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers, the legendary Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) is suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves. To get back in the game, he will need the help of an eager young race technician with her own plan to win, inspiration from the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet, and a few unexpected turns. Admittedly, I've never seen any of the CARS films, but the plot synopsis above sounds like a soft reboot of the first movie, no? One thing's for sure; they're definitely going for an "edgier" tone with this teaser! I obviously never cared enough about CARS to really give it the time of day, but this teaser tells us one of two things: That the film will take a more grounded approach (compared to previous entries), or that this gritty footage will only come into play during the racing segments. I don't think Pixar is ballsy enough to give the series a complete overhaul, so we'll have to wait until we see those cars talk to see what the overall tone will be like.
CARS 3 will open in theaters on June 16, 2017.
