Plummer is Tolstoy

JoBloJoBlo

Christopher Plummer and Helen Mirren will star in THE LAST STATION, a biopic of legendary Russian author Leo Tolstoy, which looks at the turbulent final year of his life. Plummer will play Tolstoy, with Mirren to play his wife, Sofia. James McAvoy and Paul Giamatti round out the cast. Giamatti plays Tolstoy’s trusted follower Chertkov, a supporter of the writer’s nonviolent socialist Christian movement who becomes Sofia’s cunning adversary, while McAvoy plays a naive private secretary sent by Chertkov to work for Tolstoy. It was originally reported that Anthony Hopkins and Meryl Streep would be headlining the project.

Would I be a better writer if I had read War and Peace? Probably, but if he really wanted people to read his stuff, why didn’t Tolstoy include any pictures? Or pop-up bits? I mean, seriously? Just words, for over 1000 pages? Come on, Leo, who the hell cares? Virginia Woolf once called him the “greatest of all novelists”, but when I was in primary-school, I wrote a short story that six out of my seven aunts said was the best thing they ever read, so, you know, let’s have some perspective.
