Poker Club is dealt a cast

Another book is making the transition to the big screen (my inexplicable book-rage has subsided now), this one by genre specialist Ed Gorman. THE POKER CLUB is about a group of friends who, while participating in a game of good ol’ 5-card stud, are interrupted by a burglar, whom they are forced to kill. While they try to cover up the murder, they discover the thief’s evil accomplice is gunning for revenge.

My poker nights usually consist of me, a bottle of Wild Turkey, a handkerchief with which I wipe away tears, and a made-up version of poker I call “solitaire.” Beats having fancy things like “friends,” and “sanity.”

The screenplay is by actor Jonathon Schaech, who also stars alongside Johnny Messner, Loren Dean, Judy Reyes, and cutie Lori Heuring. It’s already shooting in New Jersey, with Tim McCann behind the camera.

Schaech wrote the utterly bizarre Masters of Horror episode THE WASHINGTONIANS, which was about, if I recall correctly, the cannibalistic descendants of George Washington (who, the story purports, was himself fond of munching on human flesh). It wasn’t particularly good, but it compelled me in a weird way for 60 minutes, so lets see if Schaech can slap on 30 more and make the full transition from Christina Applegate’s ex to promising horror screenwriter.

Deal with Lori Heuring…
