Police Academy’s Marion Ramsey has died at the age of 73

Sad news to report today as it has been announced that Marion Ramsey, best known for playing Laverne Hooks in the Police Academy franchise, has died at the age of 73.

Before transitioning to the big-screen, Marion Ramsey appeared on stage in productions such as Hello, Dolly!, Miss Moffat, and Eubie!, as well as TV shows such as The Jeffersons, Keep on Truckin', and Bill Cosby's sketch comedy series Cos. Ramsey would take on what became her signature role in 1984 with Police Academy, in which she played the squeaky-voiced Laverne Hooks, a cadet who would occasionally let loose with a loud outburst when pushed to her limit. Ramsey would reprise the role multiple times, with Hooks later becoming a Sgt, in Police Academy 2: Their First Assignment, Police Academy 3: Back in Training, Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol, Police Academy 5: Assignment: Miami Beach, and Police Academy 6: City Under Siege. Marion Ramsey also appeared in episodes of MacGyver, Beverly Hills, 90210, Johnny Bago, The Addams Family, Daddy Dearest, The Nanny, Robot Chicken, Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!, and more, as well as movies such as Lavalantula and 2 Lava 2 Lantula, which found her reuniting with her Police Academy co-stars Steve Guttenberg and Michael Winslow. You will be missed.
