And now the SUPER 8 news comes rolling in. The J.J. Abrams/Steven Spielberg collaboration that has remained such a mystery for so many months is finally getting down to business, adding a bunch of names to the cast last week that included Kyle Chandler, Elle Fanning, Ron Eldard, Noah Emmerich Gabriel Basso, Joel Courtney, Riley Griffiths, Ryan Lee and Zach Mills. About time we started getting tangible info!
The casting isn’t done yet, however. ComingSoon.net has announced that AJ Michalka, apparently part of some kind of Disney singing duo with her sister, has boarded the SUPER 8 train. No word on who she’s playing, but she certainly looks the wholesome, middle-America type that Abrams is going for with this flick, a throwback to the days of 80s Amblin adventures…
Shooting on SUPER 8 is currently going down in West Virginia. It still doesn’t have a release date; all we know is “Summer 2011”, which is already packed with event films, so I’m curious to see where SUPER 8 might find itself. Perhaps a holiday release is in the cards instead?
