While Alfonso Cuaron’s GRAVITY isn’t the first flick you’d expect AITH to cover, there’s a lot of fascinating shite going down with the sagging Warner Bros. project.
First off, it’s a space-set thriller of CAST AWAY proportions, helmed by CHILDREN OF MEN’S Alfonso Cuaron. Good enough for any movie site right there, much less our very own. Then, after Angelina Jolie passed on the project twice, a whole cavalcade of young fine Hollywood ass had been offered the role (including Blake Lively, Scarlett Johansson, Marion Cotillard, etc.). Last month, Natalie Portman (below) had been tapped to play the crucial lead, with Bob Downey Jr. long attached to the minor male lead-role. Now, in yet another turn, it seems Portman has drifted from GRAVITY altogether (Deadline).
No specifics for why she chose to depart, though some say a January filming schedule for GRAVITY would hinder Portman’s BLACK SWAN Oscar campaign. Not sure I buy that, but this comes on the heels of yesterday’s bad news for Portman that David O. Russell left her out in the cold when she couldn’t meet his scheduling demands for PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES.

Meanwhile, Warner Bros. is now said to be courting the super picky Sandy Bullock (above) to headline the GRAVITY. Can’t be sure, but I doubt trading heartland Oscar bait for an esoteric space drama is gonna really jive with Sandy…but I’m daily more wrong than a busted clock.
