HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE started its theatrical run with a resounding bang, racking up a record breaking 22.2 million dollars from its midnight screenings and though the tally from its first full day of release didn’t break another record, it was still a formidable 58.4 million dollars.
THE DARK KNIGHT still holds the crown for the best first day box office receipt, having gathered a mind bending 67.2 million dollars the Friday it was released, with REVENGE OF THE FALLEN coming in a close second with a 62 million first day tally.
Don’t count out Harry just yet, however. Thursday may not have been a record breaking first day but unlike REVENGE OF THE FALLEN, it’s possible THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE will make more on subsequent days, especially Friday and Saturday, seeing as how Potter fans are about a thousand times more rabid than TRANSFORMERS fans and those warring robots didn’t have even a quarter of the glowing reviews HALF-BLOOD PRINCE has.
The final box office result should be very interesting.
