Acclaimed French-Canadian director Denis Villenueve is getting into the sci-fi game with THE STORY OF YOU LIFE, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The PRISONERS director, who has ENEMY coming out this Spring, will begin shooting later this year.

Based on the short story by Ted Chang, THE STORY takes off when

alien crafts land around the world and an expert linguist is recruited by the military to determine whether they come in peace or are a threat. As she learns to communicate with the aliens, she begins experiencing vivid flashbacks that become the key to unlocking the greater mystery about the true purpose of their visit.

First thing’s first: make sure they’re not carrying around a book titled “To Serve Man.”

THE THING and FINAL DESTINATION 5 screenwriter Eric Heisserer adapted Chang’s screenplay for the big screen. 21 Laps, Film Nation and Lava Bear will all co-produce.
