Prisoners of the Ghostland: Nicolas Cage’s wildest movie teased in images

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

I'm always interested to see what Nicolas Cage is going to do next, and while he picks some stinkers from time to time he also makes some incredible choices now and then. Director Sion Sono's post-apocalyptic thriller Prisoners of the Ghostland sounds like it's going to be one of those incredible choices. There's no word on when the film is going to make its way out into the world, but a batch of first look images have arrived online and can be seen below.

Written by Aaron Hendry and Reza Sixo Safai, Prisoners of the Ghostland stars Cage as

notorious criminal Hero, who is sent to rescue an abducted woman who has disappeared into a dark supernatural universe. They must break the evil curse that binds them and escape the mysterious revenants that rule the Ghostland, an East-meets-West vortex of beauty and violence.

Sofia Boutella, Bill Moseley, Ed Skrein, Young Dais, and Tak Sakaguchi co-star.

Cage has said the script was

unlike anything I've ever read before. It might be the wildest movie I've ever made, and that's saying something. It's out there. I wear a skintight black leather jumpsuit with grenades attached to different body parts, and if I don't rescue the governor's daughter from this state line where they're all ghosts and bring her back they're gonna blow me up. It's just crazy. It's way out there."

The images don't include a good look at that grenade jumpsuit, but they're cool anyway.

Safai produced Prisoners of the Ghostland through his company Black Light District Entertainment, along with Untitled Entertainment's Laura Rister, Eleven Arts' Ko Mori, Nate Bolotin of XYZ Films, and Michael Mendelsohn of Patriot Pictures / Union Patriot Capital Management, which financed the project.
