Looks like the KINGDOM OF THE SPIDERS remake is going to have some competition in the giant 3D spider department. A new promo poster for SPIDERS 3D has hit the net, as well as a really splendid synopsis, which you can nibble on below. This one is going to be a smash, no doubt about it. (In case you can’t read the tagline, it’s “Eight Legs. Three Dimensions. One Disaster.”)
The flick is being produced by Nu Image (THE EXPENDABLES) and directed by Tibor Takacks, who, back in the 80s was making a name for himself with clever thrillers like THE GATE and I, MADMAN but recently has been doing things like NYC: TORNADO TERROR and MANSQUITO. He also helmed a masterpiece called ICE SPIDERS, but it doesn’t look like there’s any connection here…
Here’s what SPIDERS 3D is all about: Following a crash of an old Soviet space station in New York City’s subway tunnel, a new species of poisonous spiders is discovered. Inadvertently the spiders mutate to gigantic proportions and wreak havoc on the entire city.
The thing about SPIDERS 3D is that it’s destined to premiere on the Syfy channel, so I’m not sure why they’re trying to fool us – or themselves – unless the whole 3D angle is just a way to secure overseas sales. In any event, we’ll keep a close eye on this one, which is evidently set to shoot in Bulgaria. (The IMDB lists young actress Sydney Sweeney and our old friend Jon Mack as being in the cast, but we all know how much you can’t trust them, so…)
The Mack is back!
