NBC gave a pilot order to a reboot of classic sci-fi series Quantum Leap nearly two month ago and we now have our leading man. Raymond Lee will star in the Quantum Leap reboot as Dr. Ben Seong, a “spiritual successor” to Dr. Sam Beckett (Scott Bakula).

The Quantum Leap reboot will be set in the present day, nearly thirty years since Dr. Beckett stepped into the Quantum Leap accelerator and vanished. A new team has been assembled to restart the project in the hopes of understanding the mysteries behind the machine and the man who created it. Raymond Lee’s Dr. Seong is both a world-renowned physicist and man of faith but finds himself stuck in the late 1980s with amnesia after using the Quantum leap technology on himself.

The reboot will be written and executive produced by Steven Lilien and Bryan Wynbrandt, co-showrunners of La Brea. Blindspot creator Martin Gero is also onboard as an executive producer as are original series creator Don Bellisario and executive producer Deborah Pratt. At this time, it’s not known if Scott Bakula will return in any fashion, but Deadline does state that the actor has been in talks to do so but isn’t attached at this time.

Scott Bakula has previously seemed keen on the idea, saying last year that there were “very significant conversations” about a Quantum Leap reboot. “The rights were a mess for years,” Bakula said. “I don’t know if they’re even sorted out now. That’s always been the biggest complication.” However I would imagine the death of Dean Stockwell, who starred alongside Bakula as Al, Dr. Beckett’s best friend, might have soured the idea somewhat.

Raymond Lee most recently starred on AMC’s Kevin Can F*** HImself but has also been seen on Here and Now, Prodigal Son, Mozart in the Jungle, Scandal, and more. Before starring the the Quantum Leap reboot, Raymond Lee will next be seen in The Lost City alongside Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum on March 25th as well as Top Gun: Maverick on May 27th.
