Quentin Tarantino’s next film may revolve around the Manson Family murders

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

It's always exciting to see which project Quentin Tarantino chooses to tackle next, and, according to THR, his next film could revolve around the Manson Family murders. The outlet states that Tarantino has been quietly putting the project together and has been talking with several A-list actors for what is described as a "unique take on the Manson Family murders." The title of the film is currently unknown, but, as usual, Quentin Tarantino would both write and direct the project.

THR's sources say that Tarantino is close to putting the finishing touches on the script and that both Brad Pitt and Jennifer Lawrence have been approached, but that any actor involvement is sure to be in the very early stages at this point. Deadline notes that Margot Robbie has also met with Tarantino, potentially to play Sharon Tate. Bob and Harvey Weinstein will be involved and are said to be in the early stages of shopping the project to studios interested in co-financing and co-distributing the film. Studios may receive the package after Labor Day (September 4th) and the plan is to shoot the film in 2018. It's obviously far too soon to say how Quentin Tarantino's script will approach the horrific murders, but one of the story's will apparently center around Sharon Tate, the pregnant wife of director Roman Polanski who was murdered by Manson's followers on August 9, 1969.

THR notes that if the Manson Family murders project does indeed become Quentin Tarantino's next film, it will be the first of his movies to be based on true events. However, Tarantino has shown that he has no issue playing fast and loose with history, such as the killing of certain historical figures in INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS. I briefly considered that Tarantino's "unique take" on the events might involve Sharon Tate surviving and seeking vengeance, but that would stray a little too close to KILL BILL territory, and if the director really does plan on retiring after ten movies, I can't imagine that he'd want to repeat himself.

What do you folks think of Quentin Tarantino possibly taking on the Manson Family murders?
