I’m not sure what to think of this trailer for THE RAVEN. I missed the footage at Comic-Con so this is the first I’m seeing from the movie and while it looks slick (shot by V FOR VENDETTA director James McTiegue) something just seems lacking. And while I hate to say it, I think it’s John Cusack.
Throughout this trailer, I never get the feeling like Cusack is playing Edgar Allan Poe. It just seems like it’s…John Cusack. His voice an mannerisms don’t seem to disappear at all into the character and while some actors and strong enough to let their personality bleed over into their films (Jack Nicholson, for example), I don’t know that it’s working for Cusack here (an actor I normally love).
The film looks like a FROM HELL style thriller though and it looks like it could be perfect for Halloween so I’m not sure why Relativity is holding out until March. But take a look at the trailer below and let me know what you think.
