Raimi is a Given

JoBloJoBlo

Sam Raimi has signed on to develop and direct an adaptation of Dennis Lehane’s novel “The Given Day.” The book won’t hit stores until September 23rd but that hasn’t stopped Hollywood from gobbling up the rights to the next novel from the author of MYSTIC RIVER, GONE BABY GONE and Martin Scorsese’s next, SHUTTER ISLAND. The project is set up at Sony Pictures where they’re currently trying to convince Raimi that a fourth SPIDER-MAN movie would be a good idea (considering that the third SPIDER-MAN movie wasn’t a good idea, I don’t see that logic). The story is set in 1919 Boston after WWI are returning from overseas bringing with them an epidemic of influenza. This is set against the backdrop of the Boston Police Strike. Or something like that. Raimi said it’s Lehane’s “most ambitious” book. Raimi is currently filming DRAG ME TO HELL while James Vanderbilt (ZODIAC) writes a new SPIDER-MAN script.
