You can’t stop Jack Reacher, baby. It was announced today that Prime Video has renewed Reacher for season 5, well ahead of the fourth season premiere.
In a statement, Peter Friedlander, Head of Global Television at Amazon MGM Studios, said, “From Lee Child’s globally beloved novels to its standout on-screen adaptation, Reacher has evolved into a true powerhouse franchise. The series’ ability to combine high-octane action with compelling character storytelling continues to resonate with tens of millions of viewers around the world. We’re excited to move forward with a fifth season ahead of Season Four’s debut and to build on this incredible momentum.“
The series stars Alan Ritchson as the title character, a former U.S. Army military police officer and drifter who uses his keen mind and hard-hitting fists as he crosses paths with dangerous criminals while travelling the country.
The fourth season doesn’t even have a premiere date yet, but it is expected to debut later this year. It will be based on Gone Tomorrow, the 13th book in Lee Child’s long-running series. The logline reads: “When a chance encounter with a distraught stranger on a subway goes horribly wrong, Jack Reacher is drawn into a complex and deadly game that pits him against ruthless foes from the highest echelons of power.“
Production on the new season wrapped in March, with Chris Marquette, Sydelle Noel, Agnez Mo, Anggun, Kevin Weisman, Marc Blucas, Kevin Corrigan, and Kathleen Roberston joining the cast. Jay Baruchel was originally announced as part of the new season, but he was forced to drop out before filming began due to a personal matter.
In addition to the main series, there’s also a spinoff series to look forward to. The new show focuses on Frances Neagley (Maria Sten), a friend of Reacher. Ritchson is expected to make an appearance in the series. “Frances Neagley is a private investigator in Chicago. When she learns that a beloved friend from her past has been killed in a suspicious accident, she becomes hell-bent on justice,” reads the description. “Using everything she’s learned from Jack Reacher and her time as a member of the 110 Special Investigators, Neagley puts herself on a dangerous path to uncover a menacing evil.“
