Rebecca Romijn is down for a Mystique MCU X-Men return

Rebecca Romijn last played the shape-shifter Mystique back in 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand and the role was subsequently taken over by Jennifer Lawrence when they did a soft reboot of sorts with X-Men: First Class. Now, with all of this multiverse talk that is heating up with the release of the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel, Romihn is revealing whether or not she’d be down for an MCU return.

The model-turned-actress sat down with ComicBook recently and she was asked if she would ever want to return to play Mystique in a future MCU project. Even though getting in that blue makeup was a bit of a chore, Romijn says she would be interested in returning if the opportunity presented itself:

“I don’t know if they would ever want me back. I mean, that was quite a few years back when I played that character, but I would love to, yeah, absolutely. It was a fantastic franchise to be a part of. I’ll love that cast until the day I die. We had a great time together. And yeah, I would absolutely be open to that.”

Romijn played the character in the first three X-Men films and even though the role didn’t require a ton of spoken lines, Romijn used her natural ability as a model to give Mystique a striking screen presence. Of her three appearances, she’s best utilized in X2: X-Men United where she forms a strong rapport with Ian McKellen’s Magneto as his right-hand woman. It can be argued that Jennifer Lawrence is the better actress but I always thought Romijn captured the vibe of the character much better.
