Writer/director Lucio A. Rojas's TRAUMA is said to contain "aberrant sexual & extreme violent content, strong language, and graphic nudity", and the newly released red band trailer for the Chilean film gives a preview of some of its most troubling elements. A weekend retreat descends into a rape nightmare, followed by a bloody revenge full of gunfire and dripping severed body parts.
The official synopsis for TRAUMA goes like this:
Four women travel through the weekend to a countryside area of Chile and they are brutally attacked by a man and his son.
Alone and abandoned, they decide to confront the criminals. The struggle will lead the young women to a spiral of violence and depravity, for which none of them will be prepared.
The film stars Catalina Martin, Daniel Antivilo, Felipe Ríos, Macarena Carrere, Ximena del Solar, Dominga Bofill, Eduardo Paxeco, Claudio Riveros, Alejandro Trejo, Max Torres, and Catalina Bianchi.
Rojas drew inspiration from Chilean history when crafting his film, specifically the period between 1973 and 1990 when Chile was under the dictatorial rule of Augusto Pinochet. The filmmaker says that TRAUMA's villains come from the time of Pinochet,
whose regime not only killed, tortured and disappeared compatriots, but there was a state apparatus of sexual abuse violations and the most horrible harassment against many women."
TRAUMA will be making its world premiere at the Morbido Fest, which is set to be held in Mexico City from October 26th through November 5th.
