Reese Witherspoon is attached to star in an upcoming remake of the 1939 comedy MIDNIGHT for Universal. Michael Arndt, recently an Oscar winner for LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE, will adapt the script based on the original film. Not knowing jack squat about this film I did a little IMDBing and came up with this synopsis: “Showgirl Eve, stranded in Paris without a sou, befriends taxi driver Tibor Czerny, then gives him the slip to crash a party. There she meets Helene Flammarion and her gigolo Picot, who’s attracted to Eve. Helene’s scheming husband Georges enlists Eve’s aid in taking Picot away from his wife. It works well… at first. Meanwhile, lovestruck Tibor searches for Eve. But then he learns she’s calling herself Baroness Czerny!” What?? I just have no idea what that paragraph was trying to say. In addition to starring, Witherspoon would produce the film through her Type A Films. MIDNIGHT won’t be Witherspoon’s next film but she’s unclear exactly what her next film will be so I can’t make any promises. She can be seen next in RENDITION with Jake Gyllenhaal.
