Reese Witherspoon to headline supernatural thriller Cold

Last Updated on July 22, 2021

One of the most popular and highest-paid actresses in Hollywood, as well as an Academy Award winner, Reese Witherspoon hasn’t done a lot of genre work in her career, most notably skirting the edge of horror with the 1996 Mark Wahlberg stalker movie FEAR and in 2000 co-starring in AMERICAN PSYCHO. She’s now set to delve further into horror with COLD, a project that was just acquired by Lionsgate.

Witherspoon will star and, with her producing partner Bruna Papandrea, produce COLD from a pitch by screenwriter Bill Marsilii. Aside from co-writing the Tony Scott/Denzel Washington film DEJA VU, Marsilii has primarily worked on kid-friendly fare like COURAGE THE COWARDLY DOG.

What exactly COLD is about is being kept secret, but the project is described as “a dark thriller with supernatural elements”. Whatever it is, Lionsgate thought the pitch was worth paying a mid-to-high six figure sum for.

There’s not much to go on, but I’m up for watching Witherspoon deal with supernatural forces. We’ll have more on COLD as it develops.
