Reno 911! revival in the works for Quibi

Reno 911, Quibi, revival

The men and women of the woefully inept Reno Sheriff's Department will soon be returning to serve and protect as it's been announced the series will be making a comeback on Quibi, Jeffrey Katzenberg's upcoming streaming service. Quibi has given a green-light to a new season of the comedy series, which will find creators Thomas Lennon, Robert Ben Garant, and Kerri Kenney-Silver returning to write and star in the revival.

"Reno 911! holds a special place in our hearts, and it will be a delight to get the original cast back together for ‘re-boot goofin.’ Hopefully Nick Swardson can still roller skate," Lennon said. "Quibi’s short format seems custom made for our show." Filmed in the mockumentary style, Reno 911! ran on Comedy Central from 2003 to 2009 and was largely improvised and featured a large ensemble cast of comedians. "We are very excited to partner with Ben, Kerri and Tom, three of the most gifted multi-hyphenates in comedy, to bring more of their iconic series Reno 911! to the world," said Sarah Babineau and Jonas Larsen, Comedy Central’s Co-Heads of Original Content. "Fans demanded this for a long time and Comedy Central Productions and Quibi are thrilled to help answer that kind of 911 call." Quibi's Doug Herzog added, "I couldn’t say it better than Sarah and Jonas, and I for one will sleep soundly knowing Reno 911! is back on the beat keeping our streets safe once again." The series also spawned a feature-film, RENO 911!: MIAMI in 2007.

If you're wondering what the hell Quibi is, it's an upcoming short-form streaming service founded by Jeffrey Katzenberg which is looking to target younger viewers with premium content delivered in "quick bites" for viewing on the go. Each Quibi series will be around two to four hours in length, but will be divided into segments no longer than 10 minutes each. Quibi is slated to launch on April 6, 2020.
