Reyka trailer: serial killer thriller series comes to BritBox this week

Created by Rohan Dickson (Professionals), the suspenseful serial killer thriller series Reyka is coming to BritBox this Tuesday, November 16th – and you can check out the trailer in the embed above! All eight episodes of Reyka will drop on BritBox at the same time, so binge watching will be an option right away.

Described as “disturbing and gory”, Reyka has drawn comparisons to The Silence of the Lambs. The show follows

a flawed but brilliant South African criminal profiler, Reyka Gama (Kim Engelbrecht, “The Flash,” “Dominion”) who is haunted by her past. Having been abducted as a child by a farmer named Angus Speelman (Iain Glen, “Game of Thrones”), Reyka is traumatized by the experience – but this also helps her enter the minds of the world’s most notorious criminals and turn them inside out. In the drama, she returns home to investigates a string of brutal murders committed by a serial killer in the sugar cane fields of Kwa-Zulu-Natal.

If you’re not aware, BritBox is a streaming service from the BBC and iTV that offers “the biggest collection of British TV ever”. No cable or satellite subscription is required.

Reyka was first released through the subscription television channel M-Net back in July. The M-Net original production was co-produced by Quizzical Pictures and Serena Cullen Productions.

Engelbrecht and Glen are joined in the cast by Nokuthula Ledwaba (Rhythm City), Anna-Mart van der Merwe (Kanarie), Hamilton Dhlamini (Five Fingers for Marseilles), Mavuso Simelane (The Red Sea Diving Resort), Thando Thabethe (Thando Bares All), Desmond Dube (The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency), Leeanda Reddy (Scandal!), and the late Tamara Jozi (Soul City), who passed away in August.

Reyka looks like it could be interesting, so I might give it a watch sometime.
