Rinko is Assualt Girl

JoBloJoBlo

Rinko Kikuchi Anime icon Mamoru Oshii, who brought us the classic GHOST IN THE SHELL, has announced that he’s working on his first live action film in eight years.

The film is titled ASSAULT GIRLS and stars BABEL Oscar nominee Rinko Kikuchi, along with Meisa Kuroki and Hinako Saeki, as the titular hunters “in a desert landscape in a post-apocalyptic world,” apparently transporting “huge, morphing beasts” called “sand whales”. The film’s scheduled for release December 19th.

Kikuchi was most recently stateside in the Rian Johnson directed heist comedy THE BROTHERS BLOOM and can next be seen in the drama/thriler MAP OF THE SOUNDS OF TOKYO and the Japanese SIDEWAYS remake.
