RIP Joe Wizan: The Guardian producer succumbs to illness at 76 years old

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

While the hearts of most are going out to legendary golden age movie star Elizabeth Taylor today, let’s not forget about movie producer Joe Wizan, who also perished this week. Wizan passed away due to natural causes at the age of 76. RIP sir, you’re work will live on for a long time.

Now, many of you have probably never heard the name Joe Wizan before now, hell I didn’t even know the man by name. However, I bet the movies he produced, especially in our beloved genre, will certainly ring a bell. Peep it…

Starting with AUDREY ROSE in 1977, Wizan’s 33 producorial credits have more than its fair share of horror/thrillers in the mix. Over the years, he produced DARK NIGHT OF THE SCARECROW, SPELLBINDER, THE GUARDIAN, FIRE IN THE SKY, KISS THE GIRLS and ALONG CAME THE SPIDER (among others).

Out of genre, Wizan also produced a handful of flicks I both like and respect the hell out of, including: PRIME CUT, JUNIOR BONNER, JEREMIAH JOHNSON, …AND JUSTICE FOR ALL, IRON EAGLE and CLASS ACT (yes, I dig the 1992 Kid N’ Play movie, sue me…)
