Camila Mendes, who is best known for playing the role of Veronica Lodge on The CW series Riverdale, stars alongside Oscar-nominated actress Adriana Barraza (who also happens to be in the upcoming RAMBO: LAST BLOOD) in director Sara Seligman's thriller COYOTE LAKE, which was originally announced under the title FALCON LAKE.

Written by Seligman and Thomas James Bond, COYOTE LAKE tells the following story:

Ester (Mendes) and her overbearing mother (Barraza) run a small bed & breakfast hotel near the border of the United States and Mexico. One night, two unwanted guests arrive bloodied and armed with guns, taking the women hostage. What the criminals do not know is that their captives are hiding a secret, one that may prove to be more dangerous than anything they could anticipate.

There's another, more in-depth synopsis that gives away what secret Ester and her mother are hiding, so this one could be considered a SPOILER:

Coyote Lake, inspired by the real life Falcon Lake, is a reservoir on the Rio Grande along a dangerous drug smuggling route that has become synonymous with cartel violence and mysterious disappearances. It is there, on the lake, that Teresa (Barraza) and her seventeen-year-old daughter, Ester (Mendes), run a boarding house where they routinely drug, rob and drown the unsuspecting drug-runners and human traffickers who stay the night. Teresa justifies the killings to her daughter, claiming they are ridding the world of bad people and saving the stolen money to leave Coyote Lake and start anew. But when they are taken hostage themselves by two intruding cartel gangsters, their dark routine is interrupted. Ester begins to develop feelings for one of their captors, Teresa’s lies are eventually exposed, and their lives are turned on their heads in an explosive and violent conclusion.

Manny Perez, Andres Valdez, Neil Sandilands, and Charlie Weber co-star.

COYOTE LAKE sounds pretty interesting to me. I'll be checking it out when it receives a VOD and limited theatrical release on August 2nd.

Good Deed Entertainment has shared a short clip from the film that shows Ester and Teresa handling some disturbing business on the titular lake:
