Soderbergh steps in for Reeves
Even as the sequel to 2022’s The Batman faced many delays in getting to production. The trouble wouldn’t end there as the writer and director of the film, Matt Reeves, would have to take some time from his directing duties to tend to a personal family matter. The production was paused temporarily to allow Reeves his time, but filmmaker Steven Soderbergh would eventually step into the directing position to help finish the filming of the movie. It’s been reported that despite Reeves’ absence, he is still involved as much as he can be, as Soderbergh oversees the rest of production.
Robert Pattinson shows praise to Soderbergh
As this time is difficult for Reeves and a challenge for the film, The Batman: Part II star Robert Pattinson would give some praise to Soderbergh for stepping in as a guest director. According to Variety, Pattinson stated,
I am so happy he’s come on to help Matt. It’s incredibly generous of him – and he’s doing it in the loveliest way. It’s completely selfless. I think Matt had put so much work into the script, and we’re almost done. So for someone to come in and say, ‘I just want to help Matt do it; I want to do it in conjunction with him and just get it to the edit.’ And to have someone who’s as talented as Steven doing it is great.”sponsored content
When he was asked when the filming is set to recommence, Pattinson replied, “I think they’re in production already. And I’m starting in a couple of days.”
Soderbergh’s Statement
It’s said the production was about two-thirds done before the pause.
“I thought Matt Reeves’ work on The Batman was stunning; it was intentional, specific, and rigorously coherent,” Soderbergh said in a statement. “The goal here is to work with Matt and his team to generate footage that will integrate seamlessly with what’s already been shot so Matt can properly finish his film.“
The studio added, “As Matt Reeves continues to attend to an ongoing family matter, Steven Soderbergh, as an admirer of Matt’s work, approached Matt and will step in to help the writer-director complete the final weeks of principal photography on The Batman Part 2. Matt and Steven will work closely together with the actors and crew to fulfill Matt’s vision of the film.“
