I had heard rumors that this might be happening for weeks now and I’m pleased as punch it finally worked out – Robert Rodriguez will be showing off footage from PREDATORS at SXSW and will host a Q&A with director Nimrod Antel afterward! The idea to have Rodriguez give the SXSW crowd a first look at footage is kind of a no-brainer since they’re already in Austin working on the film. The only possible hold-up I had heard was whether the footage would be ready in time. Looks like the man was able to get it together and we’ll be able to get a look at what to expect!
The PREDATORS footage will premiere on March 12th, the opening night of the festival, directly after the KICK-ASS premiere. The presentation will take place at the Alamo Ritz Theater in downtown Austin, at 10:15pm. Doors open at 9:45pm, and the special event is only open to SXSW Badge-holders on a first-come, first-served basis. The audience Q&A follows the unveiling.
The news also comes with an official blurb about the film: The film stars Adrien Brody as Royce, a mercenary who reluctantly leads a group of elite warriors who come to realize they’ve been brought together on an alien planet… as prey. With the exception of a disgraced physician, they are all cold-blooded killers – mercenaries, Yakuza, convicts, death squad members – human “predators” that are now being systemically hunted and eliminated by a new breed of alien Predators.
PREDATORS hits theaters on July 7.
