Like a glutton eyeing a bake sale, we’ve been eagerly anticipating the release of Robert Rodriguez’s unabashed send-up to cinematic sleaze, MACHETE, for over two years now. Literally! Well folks, it’s finally here…a theatrical release date for the flick that stars Bob De Niro, Jessica Alba, Lindsay Lohan, Cheech, Marin, Jeff Fahey, Michelle Rodriguez, Steven Seagal, Don Johnson, Rose McGowan, Tom Savini and everyone’s favorite pimped out federale, Danny Trejo!
But before we get to the day of reckoning, let’s revisit what MACHETE’s all about. Originally conceived as a faux-trailer for the GRINDHOUSE double-feature, Rodriguez’s ode to exploitation trash follows:
The highly skilled Federale Machete is hired by some unsavory types to assassinate a senator. But just as he’s about to take the shot, he notices someone aiming at him and realizes he’s been set up. He barely survives the sniper’s bullet, and is soon out for revenge on his former employers, with the reluctant assistance of his old friend Cheech Marin, who has become a priest and taken a vow of nonviolence. If you hire him to take out the bad guys, make sure the bad guys aren’t you!
Seriously, what’s not to love about that shite?
So, now that I’ve strung you out long enough, I bet you wanna know when we can see this badass mofo, right? The date, ladies and gents, will be September 3rd, 2010. Perfect for Labor Day weekend!
