Rolling Road-Show: The Fantastic Fest event photos for the screening of Buried

This year’s Fantastic Fest kicks off with a bang this Thursday (Sept 23rd), and to prove it…a pair of “Rolling Road Show” event photos for the upcoming screening of Rodrigo Cortes’ BURIED have just crossed the wire. Pretty nifty shite!

For those with absolutely no clue as to what we’re referring to, allow us to expound.

The Alamo Drafthouse & Fantastic Fest launched the most ambitious movie-viewing stunt of all time for “Buried with BUIRED” in celebration of the gala screening of BURIED at Fantastic Fest on Thursday, September 23.

Four participants were selected to be sealed and buried in custom built coffins to watch the entire film. After signing waivers, the participants were blindfolded and had burlap sacks placed over their heads. They were driven in silence to a location 30 minutes outside of Austin. Only after they had been placed inside their coffins were they allowed to remove the blindfolds. Inside the custom-built coffins they watched BURIED on LCD monitors fixed to the coffin lid. Each of them made it through (relatively) unscathed and will get to meet Ryan Reynolds at the gala event for surviving the experience.

Seriously, how f*ckin’ gnarly is that? Four cats cool enough to watch an entire feature about a dude locked in a coffin for ninety minutes, while they themselves are trapped in a pine-box for the same amount of time? That’s pretty harsh. Kudos to the winners (pictured below)!

About the event, Fantastic Fest co-founder Tim League said:

“The Rolling Roadshow is all about finding that unique film viewing experience with the perfect combination of movie and setting. It’s traditionally been a communal experience of seeing a film outdoors with hundreds of people. But for this event we put an even cooler twist on the concept, because some movies are perfect for seeing while buried.”

BURIED opens a limited run this Friday (Sept 24th), then goes wide October 8th.
