Roman Polanski may have a key role in Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming film

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Every so often, a new piece of information about Quentin Tarantino's upcoming film emerges, slowly filling us in as to just what the heck it's all about. We know that the film will be set in Los Angeles during the summer of the Manson murders, but its focus will be on a TV actor (Leonardo DiCaprio) who may be leaving Hollywood behind after failing to break into movies. As one of the victims of Charles Manson's reign of terror was Sharon Tate, it's probably not a huge revelation that her husband, Roman Polanski, might pop up in the film, but according to Variety's Justin Kroll, Polanski may very well have a "key role" in the story.

Obviously the real Roman Polanski won't be in the film, but Kroll adds that Tarantino is looking to cast an authentic Polish actor in the role. It's also interesting to note that Kroll claims that Leonardo DiCaprio's character will be Sharon Tate's neighbour, thereby putting him quite a lot closer to the events of that terrible night than I would have suspected. More details were revealed last month about DiCaprio's character, who will be "an actor who had his own Western show, Bounty Law, that ran on the air from 1958 to 1963. His attempt to transition to movies didn’t work out and in 1969 — the film is set at the height of hippy Hollywood movement– he’s guesting on other people’s shows while contemplating going to Italy which has become a hotbed for low-budget Westerns." More will undoubtedly emerge as casting continues, and I'd imagine that we'll be hearing soon whether Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt, or perhaps neither or even both, wind up with other lead role.

The as-yet-untitled Quentin Tarantino flick is set for a August 9, 2019 release.
