Got a heads-up today about a new Blu-Ray edition of DAY OF THE DEAD hitting the U.K. on MARCH 29th, and felt compelled to share some info with you ghouls.
Among the new special features (produced by journalist Calum Waddell’s High Rising Productions outfit): “Joe of the Dead: Acting in a George Romero Classic” is a 50-minute interview with star Joe Pilato (Captain Rhodes). Directed by Calum Waddell, it features a look at the actor’s career before and after Day of the Dead, and features rare, never seen before images.
“Travelogue of the Dead: On the Rhodes Again” is a 17-minute feature about Pilato’s trip to Dublin, Edinburgh and Glasgow in October 2009. Directed by Naomi Holwill, it features fans giving their own thoughts on meeting Captain Rhodes.

Joe Pilato and Naomi Holwill
Obviously, the thing is very Joe Pilato-heavy. Not that there’s anything wrong with that – who doesn’t love them some Rhodes? The Blu-Ray also includes an option of four new covers, including brand new specially commissioned artwork, the original soundtrack (which the U.S. Blu-Ray disc does not include) and a collector’s booklet.
If by some strange twist of fate you have no idea what DAY OF THE DEAD is all about, check out the synopsis. Should whet your appetite: Below ground in a fortified installation, scientists conduct experiments to understand the virus that has turned humanity into flesh-hungry zombies. Isolated and deprived of natural light, the researchers begin clashing with their military protectors and it soon becomes apparent that their co-dwellers are just as dangerous and unpredictable as the zombies gathering to enter their safe haven…
Let’s get this sucker to the states, now!
